In honour of 2011 NAIDOC week, a collection of recently aquired Indigenous works from the Gallery's collection will be on display.
Opened Land presents a selection of Aboriginal paintings recently donated to the Gallery Collection. The exhibition includes paintings by artists from the Central and Western desert regions of the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
Through these paintings the artists relate stories about their land and associated Dreaming stories. As custodians of these stories and the land they encapsulate each artist provides us with a representation that allows us access to their close spiritual connection to place.
