The Arts Centre Gold Coast presents
Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow
Proudly sponsored by I&R Electrical
Stuffing one of the world’s largest comedy festivals into the one show is no easy feat, but the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has done just that with Roadshow 2012.
Offering a selection of Australian, international and special guest comedians, the Roadshow is literally all the best bits of the Comedy Festival condensed into the one ‘all killer, no filler’ travelling event.
Last year, comedians taking part in Roadshow performed to enthusiastic crowds in 60 regional centres and capital cities across Australia - not to forget a highly successful stint in Singapore and a sold-out debut season in Hong Kong. Given such popularity, this year’s Roadshow plans to connect with even more comedy fans and share the kind of humour that’s had Melbourne weeping with laughter. More than 300 shows contained in one - you can’t get better value than that.
Cast announced!
David Thornton (MC)
With his accessible humour and free flowing style, Dave has made guest appearances on Talkin’ ‘bout Your Generation, The (7pm) Project, Good News Week, Good Morning Australia and Rove. He was voted Best Newcomer at the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and he has returned each year since. He has also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Sydney Comedy and Montreal Just For Laughs Festival.
Mel Buttle
Possibly the only comic in Australia to combine two loves of organic baking and gangsta rap, Mel Buttle aka. ‘the cardigan assasin’ is a hilarious bundle of contradictions. Nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2010 Melbourne Comedy Festival, Mel has since toured extensively throughout Australia. She is most familiar for her Brisbane’s Courier Mail column, appearances on The (7pm) Project and The Circle, her regular Message in a Buttle Breakfast radio spot on Triple J and her cult-hit Twitter feed.
Kate McLennan
Kate McLennan’s award-winning show The Debutante Diaries recently toured Australia and was nominated for a Barry Award in the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and also won the award for Best Newcomer and Best Comedy at 2006 Melbourne Fringe. She also received glowing reviews for the show in the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She is also known for her work on the Comedy Channel’s The Mansion and the 2009 Logies Road to Gold sketches.
‘Randy’
Heath McIvor's puppetry career spans 12 years and his commercial stage credits include The Hobbit, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Walking With Dinosaurs, the Live Experience. He has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Sydney Opera House. The character ‘Randy’ has appeared on Good News Week and the Melbourne Comedy Festival televised gala, and continues to deliver his acerbic brand of expletive-ridden stand up comedy around the country.
Kevin Kropinyeri
Kevin Kropinyeri is a one-man whirlwind that will have you holding your sides laughing, as he shares tales of growing up, marriage and the particular, absurd challenges of life as an Aboriginal Australian family man. Kevin won the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s national Deadly Funny comedy competition in 2008. Since then, Kevin has appeared at the Deadly Awards at the Sydney Opera House three years running, toured nationally and is presenting his debut solo show at the 2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Not only will this Roadshow leave you with all sorts of stitches and aches, it will make your cheeks burn and your jaw sore too!
