Fiona Kennedy-Altoft - Offspring

Gallery 2 February 12 - April 3, 2011
Local artist Fiona Kennedy-Altoft presents large scale paintings that she describes as portraying the free, crazy and playful side of life with children.

She has transposed the features of dogs and birds into people for she has feels they are similar in many ways, as they 'are instinctive, affectionate, wild, disobedient, compliant and at times blindly loyal.'

She began work on this series partly as a reflection on her role as a parent and has found one of the privileges of that role is the way in which it is possible to become a child again yourself. Rediscovering the fearlessness, mischief, pranks and laughter are all possible when relating to your children and these exuberant works capture those emotions.
