Best known as the man behind the Choir of Hard Knocks and one of Australia's finest tenors, Jonathon Welch AM threads the amazing story of his life, with beautiful music and stories from his early years. Being told he would never have a singing career proved to be the incentive that ignited his determination to succeed and saw him progress to become one of Australia's finest tenors.
He began his singing career with Victoria State Opera, joining their first Australian tour of Pirates of Penzance in 1984 with Jon English, Simon Gallaher, June Bronhill, Marina Prior, Todd McKenny and David Hobson. During his career, he has performed many Principle Tenor roles including Madame Butterfly, Aida, Rigoletto, Barber of Seville, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Pasquale, Orpheus in the Under World, Student Prince and The Gondoliers to name a few.
Jonathan has a deep commitment to the community, youth music education and working with the homeless and disadvantaged. This commitment has been acknowledged with the awarding of the Australian of the Year Local Hero Award in 2008 and the Order of Australia.
