Winnie is an iconic piece of Australian entertainment history. In her heyday she broke all box office attendances on the Tivoli circuit between Sydney and Melbourne and is still remembered and loved by people throughout Australia. (She and her husband lived out the last 20 years of their lives on Sydney’s Northern beaches, and they are buried near Lismore.) Live music, narration and visuals, celebrate the life and music of honky tonk great Winifred Atwell. Jan and her band perform sparkling live renditions of piano tunes such as The Black and White Rag, the Harry Lime Theme and The Five Finger Boogie
Jan gives us a wonderful insight into Winifred Atwell’s life; her tireless work for charities, her enormous success which culminated in her playing to more than 20 million people worldwide, her many top ten hits, as well as personal snippets about Winnie, such as, her hands were insured for 40,000 pounds with Lloyds of London, the contract stipulating 'Miss Atwell must never do the dishes!'
Winifred Atwell was a people’s person, still greatly loved and remembered by thousands of Australians and New Zealanders who experienced her vibrant boogie/ragtime piano playing, and her warm and dignified personality.
